Bridging the imagination gap
THE IMAGINATION GAP: RETAIL'S £1BN PROBLEM
With figures from the Centre for Retail Research revealing UK consumers spent an estimated £60bn online last year, it is vital that retailers adapt and upgrade their online offerings if they are to steal a competitive edge.
When it comes to the home décor market, we know there is a huge barrier for consumers and retailers called the ‘imagination gap’. This occurs when shoppers delay or decide against buying items like wallpaper, carpets or furniture as they can’t picture what it will look like in their own homes.
DigitalBridge has undertaken independent research to reveal the extent of the ‘imagination gap’, the implications for retailers and how technology such as mixed reality and machine learning can be introduced to solve it.
The research found that:
- Consumers are putting off purchases because of the imagination gap
- Many have regretted a change they have made to their home
- A significant proportion of consumers wouldn’t make a change to their home without consulting friends and family first
- Consumers are demanding new technology from retailers to help them make purchasing decisions
